Taunton, MA -- The Bayhawks returned to the court when they hosted Gateway Community College (New Haven, CT) Saturday afternoon for a NJCAA Region XXI matchup.

Gateway started the game hot jumping out to a quick 12 point lead, but the Bayhawks quickly settled in causing havoc on defense and closing in on Gateway with fastbreak buckets from Dion Hazard Jr (Freshman/East Providence, RI) and 3-point baskets from Xavier Mendez (Freshman/Pawtucket, RI). It was the Bayhawks maintainting control the rest of the way and taking the lead into halftime 36-29.

The second half was much of the same outscoring the Lions 50-43. The Bayhawks offense was led by Xavier Mendez who was 13-18 from the field, 4-7 beyond the arc giving him 33 points along with 11 rebounds on the afternoon. Dion Hazard Jr also had stellar performance adding 28 points, 5 steals, and 10 assists.

Bristol went on to win 86-72. They are now 1-0 in NJCAA Region XXI action and 3-0 overall. The Bayhawks are on the road this Tuesday evening when they take on Bunker Hill Community College (Charlestown, MA) at 6:30 PM.
