(Fall River MA) On Wednesday, September 10th the Bristol Bayhawks Women's Soccer team hosted Region XXI opponent, the Holyoke Cougars. The Bayhawks got revenge on the Cougars for a last season playoff loss. Bristol led 3-1 at halftime and won the game with a 5-1 final score.
The Bayhawks return seven Sophomores, all of which started opening day for returning head coach, Braley Freire. Coach Freire, who took over the program last season added first year assistant coach, Matthew Ayres this offseason.
This opening game belonged to Bristol's Sophomore Captain, Morgyn Riedl (Lakeville MA). Riedl, the lead returning goal scorer picked up where she left off with five goals, three in the first half. Freshman Daniela Bustamante (Fall River MA) assisted on two goals in her first collegiate game. Sophomore Savannah Sousa (New Bedford MA) and Freshman Rachel Ferreira (Swansea MA) each had one assist in the win. The Bayhawks start the season with a 1-0 overall record.
Bristol's next game will be the home at the Bristolcc Taunton Center on Saturday, September 13. The Bayhawks will host Region XXI member, the Roxbury Community College Tigers at 1pm. Please follow our Bristol's athletics website and social media pages for all Bayhawks updates and news.
